William Keth Kellogg (W.K) is the name of the founder of the Kelloggs Cereal company. In 1880 W.K went to work for his older brother Dr. John Harvey Kellogg(J.H) at the Batttle Creek Sanitarium, or “San”. He was employed as a bookkeeper but soon found he was expeted to carry every non-medicine task, too. One thing W.K had to do was to help J.K in his serch for a healthy foods for the patients.

In 1894, J.H. Kellogg heard about Shredded Wheat, a ready-to-eat cereal made by Henry Perkly. Instantly J.H. thought he could do better, and he and W.H. stared to try to invent their own wheat-based food. One day while preparing to pass some cooked wheat through rollers, they where called away on other business. Left unattended for two days, the wheat almost dried out, but the brothers decided to use it anyway to see what would happen. What came out from the rollers was not the long, flat sheets of dough they had expected, but thin flakes.

The wheat flakes, when toasted, tasted crisp and light. The Kelloggs brothers had discovered a new breakfast food by accident. The patients liked it so much they wanted to have it after they left. Then they sold it by mail. Then W.K wanted to sell it by the truck-load.
