I went to see Mommy yesterday. She was awake, and leaning way over on the side of her bed, with a distressed look on her face. Zelma, one of the nurses on the ward commented that Mommy looked like she was trying to get out of bed, and she got some other nurses together to pull Mommy back in the bed.
Af first, when I talked to her, she was nodding and smiling, answering me that way, but by the time the nurses were finished pulling her in the bed, changing her catheter bag, and rubbing oil on her belly, she was tired. I watched her fade from consciousness, her brow wrinkled, so I smoothed it, and then she fell asleep.
Before this had happened, Carmelita, Mommy’s nurse, had shown me all Mommy’s skin is peeling. The skin that is peeling is very dark, that discolored skin I’d noticed earlier. Carmelita said that she noticed that this is common with people with infections. She also told me that Mommy will be moved to Pipp in Plainwell today at 10 A.M. Mommy is ready for rehabilitation, and they don’t have as good facilities for that at Borgess Hospital.
I also got to help Carmelita but the boots on Mommy’s legs. She wears a boot for keeping her blood circulating in her legs every other two hours.
