Jepthah was a mighty man. He went out on losts of raids, and got into fights with his family. But he was God’s faithful servant, and when the Israelites went against God, Jepthah made a vow. The first thing that comes out to meet him at home, he would offer up to God in a burnt offering if God would deliver the enemies into his hand.
God fulfilled His end of the vow, and when Jepthah came home, his only chid his daughter, ran out to meet him. Jepthah cried and tore his clothes. His daughter mourned for 2 months with her friends. SHe had never married, but Jepthah still had to carry out his promise.
So now, every year in Israel, they mourn the loss of Jepthah’s daughter for 4 days.
