Once there was a girl who was taught to drive with a TV in the car. She was told this was perfectly normal, and something was wrong with her if she couldn’t drive and watch TV at the same time.

The first time she wrecked her car, it was pretty shocking. I mean, everybody could drive while watching TV–what was wrong with her? Then she found out that her parents had had numerous accidents. She figured it must come with the territory. Her parents had great insurance, which paid for the other person’s injuries. It even replaced the car.

Her parents took her out to celebrate getting out of that scrape. She had wrecked three cars by the time the first person died. She hadn’t meant to kill anyone, but her soap had really been getting intense when this pedestrian came out of nowhere. Palmer Courtland had a heart attack! He collapsed with a thump. The thump was so loud, it shook the car.

Wait a minute. What was that thump and bump anyway? She stopped the car with a shudder. There was a person under the car. Everything after that was a blur. The police came, asked questions, took her away. Her parents hired a brilliant lawyer, who argued that it was the pedestrian’s fault. After all, they have to watch out for drivers–everyone knows about the TVs in cars!

Something changed after that, though. The girl began to question having a TV in the car. She met a man who encouraged her to remove the car TV.

Her parents were disappointed in her. They called her a sell-out, and thought she was ungrateful for all their help–especially in her legal matters. The new man encouraged her though, and she switched to reading while driving. . .
