Yesterday morning when I went about my garden/grass watering rounds, I saw a flash of color in the middle of the garden.

When I looked closer, I saw a flower blossoming in the middle of the biggest zucchini plant. So of course I grabbed my camera and took a picture. Or three. I put the best one on instagram. (my apologies to my 6 followers who must be getting tired of all the flower pictures).

When I returned to the garden later with the children to draw the new development, the flower had closed and withered. I could see another flower poised to open the next day.

Sure enough, today there was a new flower. I saw other flowers on the horizon on our happy zucchini. And yesterday’s flower? Looks like it’s going through a metamorphosis.

Meanwhile, the Rose of Sharon trees by the front window are sporting more blossoms than ever, and I get so happy every time I look at them. It makes the fact that they drop and try to seed themselves all over the yard totally worth it.
